Born on January 22, 1965, multi-instrumentalist+singer & songwriter
Andrew Roachford was raised in south London, ENGLAND and it was while
as a member of his uncle's band that he began playing gigs on the Jazz
circuit. In 1987 he put together a Pop-Soul band of his own simply called
Roachford with Hawi Gondwe on guitar, Derrick Taylor on bass and Chris
Taylor on drums.
By early 1988 the quartet toured with Terence Trent D'Arby and The Christians
gaining a reputation for an energetic live show; that summer was released
the band's eponymous debut album which generated the U.K. top 5 smash
"Cuddly Toy" as well as two minor hit singles in "Family
Man" and "Kathleen"; "Roachford" eventually cracked
the American Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and the lead single, "Cuddly
Toy", hit #25 on The Billboard Hot 100.
The band's second album, "Get Ready!" was released in May 1991,
the record failed to garner much attention and only the title-track received
considerable airplay across Europe.
After a three-year hiatus the quartet returned with "Permanent Shade
Of Blue" but none of the singles from the album managed to break
into the U.K. chart.
Another three and a half years passed before Roachford returned with new
material, "Feel" was in fact released in October 1997.
After a prolonged dry spell Andrew Roachford issued his next album,
"Heart Of The Matter Vol. 1", in October 2003 as a solo artist.
He returned two years later with "Word Of Mouth", the set features
two singles: "Tomorrow" and "River Of Love".
