Robert Kelly Thomas was born on a military base in Germany on February
14, 1972, he spent much of his childhood between his mother's house in
Florida and his grandmother's place in South Carolina. At the age 17,
after quitting high school and eventually settling in the Orlando, Florida
area, the singer + songwriter teamed with Paul Douchette and Brian Yale;
they began playing music together as Tabitha's Secret; in 1996 the guys
formed Matchbox 20, the band became
one of the most popular Alternative-Rock acts of the recent years, with
over 25 million albums sold worlwide.
During 1999, Thomas, had an unexpected success with the song "Smooth",
taken from the multi-platinum Santana album
"Supernatural", the track co-written and sung by Rob Thomas,
won three Grammys: Song Of The Year, Record Of The Year and Best Pop Collaboration
With Vocals.
April 2005 saw the release of "...Something To Be", his eagerly
anticipated debut solo album which hit #1 on The Billboard 200, #2 in
Canada and #3 in Great Britain. The disc included the Adult Contemporary
#1 single "Lonely No More", it also peaked at #6 on The Billboard
Hot 100 and was followed by three more Hot Adult Top 40 radio smashes:
"This Is How A Heart Breaks", "Ever The Same" and
"Streetcorner Symphony".
Thomas returned to the Hot Adult Top 40 chart at the start of 2007 with
"Little Wonders", a single featured in the film "Meet The
Robinsons" and in the fall he released a new record with Matchbox
20.
"Her Diamonds", a brand new song from the artist has just been
released and the mid-tempo track is confirmed as the first single from
his sophomore solo studio effort called "Cradlesong".
