Gleaning their name from an oceanographic term referring to a large,
often spontaneously generated wave, the Alternative-Rock act Rogue Wave
was formed by leader Zach Rogue, legal name Zach Schwartz, in Oakland,
California USA, in late 2002.
Rogue Wave debuted in early 2003 with the album "Out Of The Shadow",
the original, limited pressing was released on the band's own label; Zach
Rogue then hooked up with fellow multi-instrumentalists Pat Spurgeon,
focus: drums, Gram LeBron on guitar and bassist Sonya Westcott. After
some performances, Sub Pop offered them a record deal and almost immediately
"Out Of The Shadow" was remastered and re-issued in July 2004.
In October of the following year, now with new bass player Evan Farrell,
the Oakland quartet released their second album, "Descended Like
Vultures", reaching the #46 position on the U.S. Top Independent
chart.
After two albums for Sub Pop, Rogue Wave inked a new deal with Jack
Johnson's Brushfire label and in September 2007 the Bay Area-based
indie rockers released their third LP, "Asleep At Heaven's Gate";
in addition to features the current line-up of Rogue, Spurgeon, LeBron
and new bassist Patrick Abernethy, the album also features a guest appearance
from Matthew Caws of Nada Surf.
