Born David Ryan Adams in Jacksonville, North Carolina USA, on November 5, 1974, he emerged from the Alt-Country scene in the mid-'90s as guitarist+singer & songwriter with the band Whiskeytown.

When the group disbanded, in 1999, Adams began working on his own songs, went into a Nashville studio and recorded his solo debut album, "Heartbreaker", which was released in autumn 2000; a song in the set, "Oh My Sweet Carolina", is a duet with Emmylou Harris.
The following year Adams signed for Universal Records who released in September "Gold", his second effort cracked The Billboard Top 200 chart reaching the #59 spot.
"Demolition", a sort of compilation of tracks from different album sessions, was issued in September of 2002, the set debuted at #28 on Billboard's Top 200 list.
The ever-prolific singer+songwriter returned in late 2003 with three releases: the full-length album "Rock N Roll" which reached the #33 position on the U.S. Top 200 Albums chart, an 8-track EP "Love Is Hell Pt. 1" which inched into the top 80 in the same chart and another EP titled "Love Is Hell Pt. 2".
In 2005 Adams released two albums, the first of which, "Cold Roses", arrived in early May peaking at #26 on The Billboard 200 and is credited to Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, the 18-song, double-disc set included the minor hit single "Let It Ride". The follow-up, "Jacksonville City Nights" dropped in late September, hit #33 in U.S. producing the single "The Hardest Part".
Within a few months, in January of the next year, he released another album, "29", but the record failed to make it past #144 on The Billboard Top 200 list.

Ryan Adams returned in June 2007 with "Easy Tiger"; his new album includes the single "Two".
