This singer+songwriter was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia CANADA on January
28, 1968, at the age of twenty debuted with her first album, "Touch"
that achieved the gold status in her homeland. McLachlan second release
came out, after an extensive tour, in 1991 and received much attention,
the single "Into The Fire" peaked at #4 on The Modern Rock chart.
"Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" was issued two years later and sold
five million copies worldwide, two singles broke into The Modern Rock
chart, "Good Enough" hit the #16 and "Possession"
peaked at #4. 1995's "The Freedom Sessions" includes some early
version tracks from the previous album plus a cover of "Ol' 55".
The fourth LP, "Surfacing" arrived in summer of 1997, the record
became her commercial breakthrough and stormed the North-American Albums
charts, in fact hit the #2 spot Stateside and #1 in Canada; around the
same time a series of singles climbed the Billboard's chart: "Sweet
Surrender" peaked at #14 on Modern Rock, "Angel" and "Adia"
ranked in the top 5 of The Hot 100, finally "Building A Mystery"
hit the #3 on Modern Rock list and won a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal
Performance. The live album titled "Mirrorball" was issued two
years later and reached the top 3 on The Billboard Top 200 chart spawning
a top 20 U.S. smash hit "I Will Remember You", the single was
originally released in 1995 for the soundtrack of the film "Brothers
McMullen", at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards this track scored the
Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Sarah McLachlan resurfaced in fall
2003 with a new studio-LP, "Afterglow", in a few weeks topped
the American charts.
