Screaming Trees

Hailing from Ellensburg, a small town some 100 miles from Seattle, Washington USA, guitarist Gary Lee Conner, his brother Van Conner on bass and vocalist+guitarist Mark Lanegan formed this Alternative-Rock Grunge band in 1983.

Two years later, they recorded a demo EP with Mark Pickerel on drums; their first full-length album, "Clairvoyance", was released in 1986; followed a series of independent discs via SST Records.
Mark Lanegan recorded a solo album in 1990 and by the end of the year the group signed a major-label contract with Epic Records, a few weeks later appeared "Uncle Anesthesia", produced by Soundgarden's Chris Cornell and Terry Date, the record yielded their first Modern Rock top 30 single, "Bed Of Roses".
Just before they began to work on their next album, Pickerel left the band and was replaced by Barrett Martin, the 1992's "Sweet Oblivion" became the group's strongest sales album, it broke into The Billboard Top 200 chart, while the single "Nearly Lost You" climbed both the Billboard's Rock charts peaking at #5 on Modern Rock Tracks, also the second single cut, "Dollar Bill", entered the same charts.
After various solo and side projects, Screaming Trees regrouped in 1996 and released "Dust", it generated an excellent single, "All I Know", which became their second Modern Rock top 10 hit, the track also rose to #9 on Mainstream Rock chart and pushed the album at #134 on The Billboard Top 200 list.
During the following years Lanegan recorded another two solo albums and in 1998 both the singer and the drummer Barrett Martin, joined Queens Of The Stone Age.
Unfortunately tensions in the band were rising and by the summer of 2000 the group announced their official break-up.
