The Alternative-Rock trio Sick Puppies was formed in Sydney, AUSTRALIA,
by singer + guitarist Shimon Moore and bassist Emma Anzai in the music
room of Mosman High School in 1997. Initially with Moore on drums and
Anzai on guitars, the duo would frequently meet up to play alt-Rock cover
songs and eventually felt compelled to write their own tracks. Soon Chris
Mileski was added to the band to fill in on drums.
Sick Puppies started attracting significant attention when their song,
"Nothing Really Matters", won the Unearthed competition run
by the only national radio network in the country, in 2001. Later that
year they released their debut album called "Welcome To The Real
World". The band's first year culminated in them being crowned the
Best Live Act at the Australian Live Music Awards. Since that time the
achievements and highlights have flowed thick and fast, including tours
with Good Charlotte and legendary
Deep Purple.
The Australian indie-rockers, now comprised of Moore, Anzai and new
drummer Mark Goodwin, signed to Virgin Records in the United States to
release their second album, "Dressed Up As Life", which arrived
in April 2007 reaching the #181 position on The Billboard Top 200 chart.
The CD contained the Hot Modern Rock top 10 smash song "All The Same",
the track was featured in the video of Juan Mann, a man in Sydney famous
for initiating the Free Hugs Campaign; the album spun off two more singles,
"My World" hit #20 on The Hot Modern Rock Tracks and "What
Are You Looking For" reached #34 on the same chart.
Sick Puppies are back with their eagerly awaited follow-up, "Tri-Polar",
scheduled for release July 14, 2009, the band's third album overall; it
reflects the band's grueling travels on the road, along with the frustrations
that build up along the way, on songs like the first single, "You're
Going Down".
