The Memphis, Tennessee USA, Christian rockers Skillet, initially comprised
singer+bassist John Cooper, guitarist Ken Steorts and drummer Trey McClurkin.
This trio drew from an eclectic blend of musical influences to serve up
a helping of spicy Alternative-Rock.
In November 1996, the band released its self-titled first album and one
and a half years later they returned with a sophomore release, their Ardent
debut "Hey You, I Love Your Soul", which cracked the top 30
of the Billboard Contemporary Christian chart.
Enlisting the help of Cooper's wife, Korey Cooper on guitar and keyboards,
the group released "Invincible" in February 2000 reaching #13
on the Top Contemporary Christian Albums chart.
After nearly a year Skillet emerged with a new line-up, featuring John
and Korey Cooper, Ben Kasica on guitar and Lori Peters on drums; delivered
in the summer of 2001 "Alien Youth" became the band's Billboard
Top 200 entry at #141; it also peaked at #4 on the Top Contemporary Christian
Albums chart.
With the release of their fifth studio opus, entitled "Collide",
the Tennessee foursome launched themselves into the mainstream with the
single "Savior" which hit the top 30 of the Billboard's Active
Rock Tracks list in 2004. The CD went on to sell over 200,000 units, while
the band played some 200 dates a year, including tours with the likes
of Saliva, Shinedown,
Finger Eleven and Three
Days Grace.
October 2006 saw Skillet release "Comatose" which is their
most successful album to date; the CD includes the Hot Mainstream Rock
top 40 hit "Whispers In The Dark".
