The Southern California USA-based outfit Slightly Stoopid first formed
in the mid-'90s when guitarists+bassists & vocalists Miles Doughty
and Kyle McDonald, while still in high school, began to make music together
blending electric and acoustic Rock with Ska-Punk Reggae and Hip-Hop.
Not long after, the pair caught the attention of Sublime
vocalist Bradley Nowell, who signed them to his own Skunk Records label.
In 1998, Slightly Stoopid released its eponymous debut album and followed
it up with a second independent record, "The Longest Barrel Ride",
before the year was out.
After a couple of years of hard core gigging, in the summer of 2001, McDonald
and Doughty performed an hour-long live acoustic set which was recorded
and released on their own Stoopid Records imprint; this CD, "Live
& Direct Acoustic Roots", became a fan favorite having sold over
25,000 copies, mostly at shows.
In the spring of 2003 the band resurfaced with "Everything You Need",
their first legitimately produced studio effort since 1998, the album
has a special guest appearance by G. Love
on "Mellow Mood" and reached the #20 position on The Billboard
Magazine's Top Independent chart.
Recorded with a line-up of dual front-men McDonald-Doughty, drummer Ryan
Moran and Oguer Ocon on congas+percussion & harp, Slightly Stoopid
released in April 2005 "Closer To The Sun"; the 20-song set
contained the single "Somebody" and became their first album
to break into The Billboard 200 Sales chart.
Released in August 2007 Stoopid's fifth studio album, "Chronchitis",
features guest performances by Hip-Hop legend Guru and long time musical
counterpart G. Love, as well as members
of Beastie Boys.
