Thomas Edward Yorke -- AKA Thom Yorke -- lead singer + guitarist + pianist
& songwriter of the massively popular Alternative-Rock band Radiohead,
was born on October 7, 1968, in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire ENGLAND.
Yorke was born with his left eye paralyzed shut and underwent five operations
before the age of six. An eye-patch eventually allowed him some use of
the eye.
Young Thom was inspired by Elvis Costello
and Queen and began singing and playing the
guitar. After a move to Oxford, he attended Abingdon School, where the
musician met future Radiohead members
Ed O'Brien and Colin Greenwood; in March 1992, they made thir debut with
the "Drill" EP.
Thom Yorke's first solo album, "The Eraser", was released in
July 2006 on XL Recordings; the 9-song set, which was produced and arranged
by longtime Radiohead collaborator Nigel
Godrich, quickly catapulted into the top 3 in U.K. and peaked at #2 on
the American Billboard Top 200 Albums chart while the single "Black
Swan" hit the top 40 of The Hot Modern Rock Tracks. The first European
single to be taken from the CD was "Harrowdown Hill", it peaked
just outside the British Top 20.
One year later, Yorke reunited with Radiohead
again to record "In Rainbows", their seventh album which hit
the headlines after being released for download on October 10, 2007, with
fans album to specify the price.
A tribute album called "Ciao My Shining Star The Songs Of Mark Mulcahy"
comes out on Shout! Factory on September 29, 2009. The 21-song set opens
up with a new Thom Yorke solo interpretation of "All For The Best".
