Tim Armstrong was born in Oakland, California USA, on November 25, 1966.
He began his professional music career by playing guitar in the seminal
Ska-Punk band Operation Ivy; after the band's downfall in 1989, Armstrong
turned to drugs and alcoholism. His best friend, bassist Matt Freeman,
helped Armstrong dig himself out of the hole he was in and helped him
to form a very successful Punk-Rock band known as Rancid
in 1991. He married The Distillers frontwoman
Brody Dalle in 1997. They divorced in 2003 after she was seen making out
with Josh Homme, lead singer of Queens
Of The Stone Age. In 1997 Armstrong also started Hellcat Records and
two years later collaborated with Rob Aston and Travis Barker from Blink-182
in a side project called The Transplants,
releasing a self-titled album in 2002.
Tim Armstrong will release his solo debut album, "A Poet's Life",
May 21 on his label Hellcat. The album, originally scheduled for a free
internet release, only two tracks were dispatched, will be packaged alongside
a DVD featuring a video for each track as well as a doc style bit depicting
the creation of the album.
