The Alternative-Rock act The Used was formed in Orem, Utah USA, in 2000
with members Bert McCracken on vocals, Quinn Allman on guitar, Jeph Howard
on bass and Branden Steineckert on drums; the band's faith in music ultimately
provided an escape from their sleepy hometown, as well as an escape from
a combined band history that included poverty, homelessness and for McCracken,
drug addiction.
The foursome, recorded a demo which landed them a contract with Reprise
Records, who issued their self-titled debut full-length disc; prior to
the release of that album in June 2002, the band had only performed twenty
shows in and around Orem. Since then, they've logged a superhuman 600
dates around the world, including successful stints on Ozzfest and Vans
Warped Tour. The Used is a completely different band than the one that
recorded its debut, their first CD has since sold in excess of a million
copies reaching the #63 position on The Billboard Top 200 while the first
single, "The Taste Of Ink", hit the top 20 of The Modern Rock
chart; "Buried Myself Alive" followed at #13 late that winter
and the final single, "Blue And Yellow", reached #23 in the
same chart during 2003.
The Utah-based quartet returned in September of 2004 with their second
effort, "In Love And Death", which soared to #6 on The Billboard
200 Albums chart and debuted at #4 in Canada; the first single off the
CD, "Take It Away", reached the #13 slot on The Modern Rock
Tracks and its follow-up, "All That I've Got", hit #19.
The line-up remained unchanged until September 2006 when Steineckert was
kicked out of the band, he eventually joined Rancid.
Later in the year, it was announced that drummer Dan Whitesides has filled
the vacant position.
The Used released its third album, "Lies For The Liars", in
May 2007; the set includes the Hot Modern Rock top 10 hit "The Bird
And The Worm".
