The Wallflowers

The Alternative-Rock band The Wallflowers first gained widespread attention while the band's frontman was Jakob Dylan, the son of Bob Dylan, born in New York City, in 1969 and raised in Los Angeles by his mother, former model Sara Lowndes, who divorced his father in 1977; a few years later he decided to follow in his father's footsteps singing and playing guitar.
He hooked up with guitarist Tobi Miller, bassist Barrie Maguire, keyboardist Rami Jaffee and drummer Peter Yanowitz solidifying The Wallflowers' line-up.

The group's self-titled debut album was issued in August 1992 on Virgin Records, however, despite good reviews, the album failed to chart and the label dropped the group from its roster.
The younger Dylan signed a new recording contract with Interscope and announced a revised band line-up bringing in Michael Ward on guitar, Greg Richling on bass, Mario Calire on drums and keeping only Rami Jaffee; they released "Bringing Down The Horse" in May 1996; the record shot to #4 on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, spawning the massive hit "One Headlight" which topped both Mainstream and Modern Rock Tracks charts and was awarded a Grammy for Best Rock Performance By A Group With Vocal; the second album also included anothe Billboard's Rock top 10 hit, "6th Avenue Heartache", which was the the first official single, plus two more Active Rock top 20 hits including the #3 "The Difference" and "Three Marlenas"; the album was ultimately certified quadruple platinum for sales of over four million copies in U.S. alone.
During 1998 the band released the cover of David Bowie's "Heroes", a song taken from the soundtrack to "Godzilla", reaching #4 and #9, respectively, on The Mainstream and The Modern Rock Tracks charts.
The Wallflowers returned with its third full-length disc in October 2000, but "Breach" failed to match its predecessor's sales, stalling at #13 on the American Billboard Top 200 Albums list, it had only one Active Rock top 30 single, "Sleepwalker".
A year later Michael Ward left the group which continued as a four-piece; their next album, "Red Letter Days", arrived in November 2002 and reached the #32 position in U.S. it included the single "When You're On Top" which received some airplay on Adult Contemporary stations.

The Wallflowers released their first album in three years, "Rebel, Sweetheart" in May 2005; the 12-song set barely sneaked into the top 40 of The Billboard 200 producing the single "The Beautiful Side Of Somewhere" which failed to chart.
