The Alternative-Rock Punk-Pop trio The Wombats started in 2003 in Liverpool,
ENGLAND, when singer+guitarist Matthew 'Murph' Murphy and drummer Dan
Haggis were enrolled in Paul McCartney's Liverpool Institute Of Performing
Arts. So naturally they started playing gigs together before they nabbed
bassist Tord Øverland Knudsen, fresh at LIPA from his hometown
of Elverum in Norway, from the seven other bands he'd joined within a
fortnight of arriving.
Over the next two and a half years of casual gigging, they played from
Liverpool to a remote Norwegian fishing village called Stord and from
China to London; The Wombats recorded seven self-financed EPs.
After supporting Kaiser Chiefs in
Europe The Wombats signed to 14th Floor Records on which they released
their debut full-length disc, "A Guide To Love Loss & Desperation;
it soon climbed the U.K. Pop Albums chart upon its November 2007 release,
leaving them one spot short of cracking the top 10. The 13-song set includes
two British top 20 hits "Let's Dance To Joy Division" and "Moving
To New York".
