Formed in New York City, New York USA, in 2000, with a three-piece line-up
featuring vocalist Karen O, real name Karen Orzalek, guitarist Nick Zinner
and drummer Brian Chase, this Alternative-Rock outfit managed to quickly
gain the interest in the movement of the Garage scene.
In 2001 they went on to support The
White Stripes, The Strokes and recorded
their first 5-track EP.
For the next year, the band toured extensively throughout Europe with
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
and eventually released a second 3-track EP titled "Machine".
Yeah Yeah Yeahs' debut album, "Fever To Tell", came out in April
of 2003 on Interscope and broke into The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart
peaking at #55; its main single, "Maps", rose to #9 on The Modern
Rock chart and was nominated for a Grammy. The band also scored U.K. chart
success as the full-length CD and single "Date With The Night",
both ascended into the top 20.
The New York trio returned in March 2006 with its second album, "Show
Your Bones"; the disc quickly bulleted into the top 10 in U.K. and
Canada and peaked at #11 in U.S. where the single "Gold Lion"
reached the #14 position on The Hot Modern Rock chart while the follow-up,
"Cheated Hearts", was a minor hit.
March 2009 saw Yeah Yeah Yeahs unleash a brand new album, "It's
Blitz!"; it includes the Hot Modern Rock top 20 hit "Zero".
