The Alternative-Rock Punk-Pop act Yellowcard was first formed in 1997
in Jacksonville, Florida USA, but quickly made some line-up changes. After
relocating to Southern California, the band finally coalesced as a stable
group comprised of lead vocalist+guitarist Ryan Key, vocalist+violinist
Sean Mackin, guitarist Benjamin Harper, bassist Warren Cooke and drummer
Longineu Parsons III.
Their debut album, "One For The Kids", arrived in May 2001
on Lobster Records and a year later the quintet followed it up with the
5-track EP "The Underdog", released through Fueled By Ramen
Records; both releases received favorable reviews and genuine buzz.
In 2003, after a line-up change which saw the departure of Cooke followed
by the addition of bass player Pete Mosely, the band was picked-up by
Capitol Records who released their first major-label album, "Ocean
Avenue". That summer, it peaked at #23 on The Billboard Top 200 chart
and the first single, "Way Away", cracked the top 30 of The
Modern Rock Tracks list; a follow-up single, the album's title cut, proved
to be just as successful, as it peaked at #37 on The Billboard Hot 100
and at #21 on The Modern Rock Tracks; a further single, "Only One",
hit #15 on The Modern Rock chart and helped their album reach platinum
status two times.
The Florida alt-Rock band released its third album, "Lights And Sounds",
in January 2006; the CD shot to #5 on The Billboard 200 while the title-track
grabbed a #4 on The Modern Rock chart; the follow-up single, "Rough
Landing, Holly", reached the #27 position on the same chart.
In July 2007 Yellowcard released its third Capitol album, "Paper
Walls"; the disc marks the recording debut of guitarist Ryan Mendez,
who joined the band after original guitarist Benjamin Harper left. The
13-song set includes the single "Light Up The Sky".
