The Dirty Heads Biography
Emerging onto the Southern California music scene with a sound as original
as the band members themselves, The Dirty Heads' blend of hip-hop, Alternative-Rock
and vintage Reggae rips through the sonic surf with bold beats, fun rhythms
and the relaxed vibe of feel-good lyrics.
Rooted in the Orange County community of Huntington Beach, California USA, founding band members lead singer Jared Watson and guitarist + vocalist Dustin Bushnell met in 1996 while in high school, embarking on a friendship based on music, as well as their shared passion for surfing, skating and the endless party of the laid-back SoCal lifestyle.
While recording their first album, the two have collaborated with notable
musicians such as Billy Preston, A
Perfect Circle drummer Josh Freese and veteran session percussionist
Alex Acuña, whose A-list musician resume includes Peter Gabriel
and Jackson Browne, to name only
a few. To complete The Dirty Heads' sound, Watson and Bushnell added bassist
David Foral, percussionist Jon Olazabal and drummer Matt Ochoa.
The band's highly-anticipated first full-length album, "Any Port In A Storm" was released on Executive Music Group, through Fontana, in September 2008. This debut features 14 tracks that are reminiscent of the upbeat, sun-soaked Southern California party energy; the first single was the optimistic "Stand Tall" which went to #23 on The Hot Modern Rock chart.
EMG released an expanded, special edition of "Any Port In A Storm" in February 2010; the 23-track set reached #55 on The Billboard 200 Albums chart and the utterly infectious single "Lay Me Down", featuring Rome Ramirez of Sublime With Rome, rode the #1 spot on The Hot Modern Rock chart for eleven weeks.
The Dirty Heads' long-awaited second album, "Cabin By The Sea", was globally released on Five Seven Music in June 2012. It peaked at #18 on The Billboard 200 while the first single, "Spread Too Thin", crested at #13 on The Alternative Songs chart and also reached #22 on the Billboard's Rock Songs listing. Both the follow-up singles, "Dance All Night" recorded in collaboration with Matisyahu and the album's title-track, climbed into the top 30 of The Hot Modern Rock chart.
The Dirty Heads are set to release their new album "Sound Of Change" on July 8, 2014, through Allen Kovac's Five Seven Music. The set includes the single "My Sweet Summer".
